Early Education

Learning to love the Scriptures and memorize verses is a big part of what goes on in our school every day. The kindergarteners in the video above memorized all of Psalm 100 (above) and also all of Psalm 23, in addition to MANY more verses throughout the year.

Between birth and age 5, there are approximately 2,000 days of growth and development for the young child.  Each of these days is significant in the areas of cognitive, social-emotional, and spiritual development.  Grand View Christian School is pleased to offer a wide variety of age appropriate Christ-centered programs designed to prepare active 3-5 year olds for academic success and spiritual growth.

“Molding Life Long Learners and Followers of Jesus Christ”

Amy Sternquist
Kindergarten Transition Teacher

My name is Amy Sternquist. I teach preschool 3, preschool 4, and Kindergarten Transition at GVCS.

After church one Sunday evening, when I was about 7-8 years old, I remember being afraid to go to sleep because I was not sure if I was saved. My mom showed me from God's word how to know for sure that I was saved and that night I made a profession of faith. My husband and I attend Capitol City Church and help with the Cubbies program in the craft room.

I have been married to my husband Jeff for 28 years. God has blessed us with 3 sons (Daniel 27, Jacob 25, and David 18), 1 daughter-in-law, Krisanna (Root)) and a grandson (Elijah 17 months old). Our oldest son and his family will be starting a new full time ministry November 1st as Assistant/Youth pastor at Los Gatos First Baptist Community Church. Our son Jacob lives in Ames, IA and is hoping to be back in college in January. Our youngest son David is attending Emmaus Bible college in Dubuque, IA working on a degree with Business Administration.

I received my bachelors degree from Upper Iowa University with reading and language art endorsements. I have a Masters degree in Early Childhood SPED from Drake University.

I have worked for GPBS and GVCS for 18 years in preschool and I taught 2nd grade for 1 year at another Christian school. I, as well as our 3 sons and daughter-in-law had the privilege of graduating from GPBS. =

I love teaching preschool! The best part of teaching preschool is the love the kids have for you and their excitement to learn something new. It is also exciting to my students outside of school. They are always surprised and confused when they realize that I don't live at schoo. I am told a lot of funny stories and love hearing parents tell me what funny things their child says about school. This year one of the students went home and said, "I don't know why we are practicing TOMATO drills".

If I were not a preschool teacher, I think it would be exciting to be a detective or lawyer; I love mysteries.

If I don't have anything on my to-do list that is an absolute must, I love cuddling up on the couch with a good book.
