How long have you been teaching at GPBS/GVCS:

This is my 22nd year at the school

Why did you choose Grand View?

My advisor at Cedarville had done an in service at GPBS and told me that I should apply at the school.  I was not interested in teaching at a Christian school, but I listened to his advice and applied and had an interview.  The school offered me a contract in June of 1996 and I accepted.  My plan was to be there for only 1 year and then move onto somewhere else.  However, God had different plans and has directed me to be a part of this school for the last 22 years.

Favorite thing about your job:

The kids that I get to work with on a daily basis - watching them begin to understand math and more importantly watching them grow in their understanding of God and a desire to follow Him.

Guilty pleasure:

I love to eat Oreos with a glass of milk in the middle of the night.

Dream job:

Public Announcer at Wrigley Field for the Chicago Cubs or work on a golf course

Why you became a teacher:

When I was a senior in high school, there was a rash of suicide attempts in the middle school in my town.  I was asked to go along with some other high school students, to the middle school and spend some time with them.  I spent 3 days with the middle school kids.  At the end of each day we would meet (the high school kids with the middle school counselor) to process the day.  The other high school kids were exhausted and I was bouncing off the walls, because I had seen the difference that just caring about a kid could make.  That was the day I decided that I wanted to teach middle school kids.

Something that would surprise us about you:

I played baseball and pitched against Derek Jeter while I was in high school (he was the SS for the NY Yankees for years).  I traveled on a singing team in college in spite of the fact that I do not know how to read music.

High School:

I went to Plainwell High School in Plainwell, Michigan.  It was a high school of about 700 kids.  I played football, basketball, soccer, and baseball while in high school and graduated 8th in my class.
