2nd Grade Teacher
Testimony of salvation:
I grew up going to church every Sunday, however I did not understand the need for a personal relationship with Christ. In my senior year of high school, I was asked the question, "If you died tonight, do you know for sure if you would go to heaven?" I knew I couldn't answer that question with certainty. I always went back to my works. Did my good works outweigh my bad ones? God was working on me, and in my freshman year at UNI, he placed me in a hall with many Christians, including my roommate. It was early that year that I realized my need for a personal relationship with the Lord, and gave my life to Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 became very real to me, and I am eternally thankful for His grace and mercy!

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not teaching?
I enjoy reading, traveling, and watching baseball. One of my bucket list items is to go to all the major league ballparks, however I am a faithful fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. I am also, by some, considered a crazy cat lady. I have one cat of my own, and we foster one from the ARL. I adore my furbabies! I have always wanted to be a teacher, however if I couldn't do that, I would love to work with animals in some form.
How long have you been in your job at Grand View?
I began my teaching career at Grandview Park Baptist School in 1996 and taught for seven years before I decided to be a stay-at-home mom. During my time at GVPB, I taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades. While I was home raising my boys, I continued to stay involved in education in a variety of ways. I ran a tutoring business out of my home, was a supervising teacher for homeschool families, was a substitute teacher in our local public school, and worked as a children's ministry assistant for three years at Grace Church, where we worship.
After my oldest son graduated high school, I was itching to get back into the classroom. Before returning to Grand View, I taught for two years at Ankeny Christian Academy.
Twenty years ago I began my teaching career at GVPB School, and coming back feels a bit like coming "home." It is so wonderful to see so many familiar faces, and I can't wait to meet many new ones, including the precious little ones I get to spend my year with!
