The speech teams performed for the IHSSA state competition and had great results! The four teams that performed received nothing but the top rating of 1 from three different judges. There was a single second best rating of 2.
Here are the teams and their scores:
Maria from The Sound of Music (Musical Theater) - 1,1,2
Do You Love Me from Fiddler on the Roof (Musical Theater) - 1,1,1
Fries with That (Ensemble Acting) - 1,1,1
Back in Seattle (Ensemble Acting) - 1,1,1
Congratulations to all of the teams. We now must wait to see if any of these teams will be moving on to all-state. Well done to everyone who participated!
Congratulations to the following middle school band members who are members of the 2020-21 SCIBA middle school honor bands.
There are 3 bands -- Blue, White and Red.
The Blue Band is an all 8th grader group, all of whom auditioned and gained a place in the band via the quality of their audition. Two GVCS students made this honor band: Huck L. on trombone and Mia B. on tuba.
The White band is a combined 7/8 group. The 8th graders in this group were also chosen by audition: Caleb H. on percussion (he auditioned on snare, bells and timpani) qualified for this band.
7th graders are selected by director recommendation.
In the White Band, Sophie G. was selected on French horn and Mary T. on flute.
The Red band is an all-7th grade group. Again, the members of this band are chosen by director recommendation and placed in the band as there is availability. The following GVCS 7th graders are part of the Red Band:
Jacob A., tenor saxophone
Emily J., trumpet
Easton E., percussion
Usually the concert for these groups would be held in early November. There is no band concert for these groups this year due to covid restrictions. There will be a certificate of acceptance given out later.
Grand View Christian High School is proud to announce that we will be participating in Iowa High School Speech Association this year. For those of you unfamiliar with the organization, it is a speech competition in which there are many small teams that are judged in various categories. Categories include different styles of performing arts such as improvisation, filming, broadcasting, musical theatre, acting and many others. We as a school are beginning to drum up interest among the high school student body and our first interest meeting for parents and students will be in October before the season begins. We're really excited about the opportunities that being a part of IHSSA gives to our students and we're looking forward to another way to spread the news of the Gospel in our community and doing so with excellence in our performances.
